I felt this Depression-era coming of age story was too schmaltzy and Lifetime-cliche for my amusement. John Boorman's "Hope and Glory" which was released a decade later is what this film should have been; a historical coming of age film that is heartbreaking and realistic with a dash of laugh out loud comedy.
