Could've been summed up in 30 minutes, with too much interviews and exposition in its 1st half, and a 2nd half that pushes suspense to its boredom point. The couple's relationship is the unrecognized focus here, with occasionally specific details popping up concerning their dynamic. But, mostly it just needs an editor, or should've developed the characters within the action and horror, not just delayed it.
I lost respect for this film when it became a conventional yet effective found footage horror film. Before that I enjoyed the meandering pace of the leads as they encountered the denizens of aroadside tourist attraction and that was enough. It just felt lazy after that.
The amount of time dedicated to exposition and set-up is not proportional to the few (though efficient) scares that follow. Plus, there's the usual problem with horror outings like this: the characters are dumb and/or irksome. Its sound effects scare tactics are very reminiscent of The Blair Witch Project.
