Best of the worst things about 60s movies. Madcap and over-the-top heading that list. But dry and droll, too. Shirley MacLaine is the manic pixie dreamgirl to end them all, with a cunning bait and poison for typical men, deconstructing their subjectivity with her slightest objective physicalities. Inside of all that she still plays her characters with deep sympathy, tracing the shadows of the bars that pen women in.
Wanted to love this film, but really only a handful of the 7 stories is worth your time. This has all the attributes of the worst 60s films, right before films like Easy Rider and others changed the landscape forever. Its really no wonder these films were embraced so when viewing tripe like this. Love MacLaine and De Sica, but ultimately, a huge misstep in both careers. 2 stars
