I still can't gell if I liked Youth in Revolt because it was much better than I expected or because it wasn't as bad as I expected. If that makes any sense. Francois Dillinger made the movie but the great supporting cast was either wasted or misused. The story was uneven and if it wasn't so short, the pacing would be absolute murder. Michael Cera isn't so bad here and despite my grumblings it was entertaining.
Nick Twisp's alter-ego could have saved this film if he was given more screen time, as every Francois line had me rolling. Unfortunately, 95% of this pretentious piece of hipster garbage is Cera doing his "mildly attractive nerd who can't get laid" bit.
A pure gem. Miguel ARTETA you are a hell of a director, this is the best comedy of the year !
It's one of those movies you wonder why you bothered, then you remember, "it's because I like this actor or actress". The things we do for celebrities we admire. Michael Cera who once again only reminded me of Jesse Eisenberg was perfect for his character. Rooney Mara despite that small role was insanely striking, it's ridiculous! But this was far from what I'd recommend to people. See it on a slow weekend.
This is quite fun, it is not a laugh-out-loud kind of humour but rather it is consistently amusing. Michael Cara carries it and it is an impressive performance for one so young. I think that it is the right length, if it had been any more time you would get fed up with it.
An amusing 1.5 hours.
A peach of a film. Great script, superb characters and a a brilliant double acting part for Cera who shows his abilities with the cool Belmondo-esque Francois and his insecure Nick in search of his love and some courage. For a film to watch with your teenage son, this is the business !
I have a weakness for coming of age comedy films, so I tend to be a little biased towards them. Loved Michael Cera's performance, and absolutely fell in love with Portia Doubleday's Sheeni. It's one of those films that you should watch not so much expecting to laugh out loud but rather to have a tender chuckle.
This is one of those movies you either love or hate. I personally love the kind of comedy this film rests on. Some would say it's pretentious, and that's the part I like the most. And a great acting, both in leads (Michael Cera playing both good and bad himself, which shed a new light on his acting abilities for me) and in supporting roles (two words - Steve Buscemi). Underrated, probably due to the love/hate thing.
