The 6th entry in the long running series had director Kazuo Ikehiro take the reins who gave the film a more visceral take with impressive editing and cinematography throughout. The story, though basic, is well told with Sintaro Katso continuing to impress as our blind ronin.
This 6th Zatoichi film has the strongest opening yet as the opening credits are displayed, revealing typically violent encounters as the blind yakuza sits in darkness (literally & physically). It has a really straightforward story but there are a countless number of great scenes and top-notch acting. The only flaw was the distractingly obvious 60's style direction complete w/ zooms, spins & dramatic musical cues.
