“Shooting in the South was much more difficult than I thought it would be, specifically Louisiana. It would take a lot to get me back there. We went there primarily because of the filmmaking incentives and because of the look. This is a very Southern story. We encountered a great deal of homophobia in the making of the picture, which only reinforced why I had wanted to do it. There were also some wonderful people there, so it’s a shame. Plus, it was very difficult to find experienced filmmakers there. We ended up having to bring in much of our crew from New York and L.A. But the images are beautiful and we did overcome these obstacles.”
