I think this is the particular balance that these movies have—I don’t want to say mastered because I don’t know that it’s an art worth mastering—but consistently being able to smoothly move between gestures signifying gravitas and then a quick, undercutting one-liner that will then give a chuckle and let you move along.

As far as Endgame being dull, the first 40-whatever minutes I was along for the ride, but then the time-travel churn came in, and all of a sudden, it’s a very hollow and normal story about a son and a father.

The hype machine has successfully prepared us for an ‘end,’ and the film is relentlessly directed towards this end; over its three hours, it presents us with extravagant climaxes and moving denouements, over and over again, almost to the point of self-parody.

Ce que vous en pensez

  • Duncan Gray's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

The idea of rewinding/undoing catastrophe should resonate more in 2019, and if I were younger maybe it would. The time travel plot is wonky, but EG bets (and wins) that its ensemble has built enough attachment that it can tilt the balance from action to emotional beats and still have the world buy a ticket. Fan service as dramatic payoff, an IP-fest curtain call bookended appealingly by Marvel's quietest moments.

  • Zachary T.'s rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

Spends the majority of its runtime choked with exposition as it stumbles through 20+ movies of backstory; and if that weren’t enough, it retreads all of the major set-pieces of those films, to further wallow in the nostalgia of a purely nostalgia-driven cash cow, and somehow justify completely reversing the consequences of its predecessor. Bland, patronizing cinema by committee.

  • Ethan's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

This is one epic film that is an emotional rollercoaster. The culmination of everything they have done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on full display here and it is ripped apart even further to head scratching lengths but the charisma and charm of this film overpower its confusion and makes for a very entertaining cluster fuck that will have you on the edge of your seat and anticipating what might happen next.

  • Jérémy Poirier's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

A beautifully crafted and climactic payoff to character and narrative arcs that were set-up during the 21 first films of the MCU. A very rewarding and surprising 3 hour long epic that takes its time to deliver a satisfying and entertaining story. Its a huge and monumental film with a touching emotional core. Plus it is visually stunning and the sound design is perfect. I wanna see it again.

  • HenriqueA's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

I laughed. I cried. I was pissed. I left the theater happy. It was pretty smart and also pretty fucking dumb. I guess if you shoot everything at the wall something sticks, especially when everything is like 300 characters and 40 storylines and a few twists and turns and deaths. The less you think about it the more you'll love it and it was made to be loved by the fans, so there's nothing really bad I can say about it

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

After 21 movies of varying quality in 11 years, it was easy to walk into "Avengers: Endgame" a cynic—but the Russo Brothers pulled it off. They spend three hours deftly balancing introspective character beats (with frequent long takes that showcase performance), playful—and not unwarranted—fan service, and the culmination of a storyline that began before some of the kids in my audience were even born.

  • VENIMOS LOS JODIMOS Y NOS FUIMOS's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

  • Steve Pulaski's rating of the film Avengers: Endgame

An epic 11+ years in the making, featuring some of the most memorable characters in a decade and then some, "Avengers: Endgame" is a satisfying conclusion that accomplishes what it needed to. Despite a marginally cheap plot device at its core, which opens up a lot of holes, the film remains committed to pleasing those who took this odyssey. Its emotional payoff is grand, and we may never see a series like this again.
