[A] deliciously dark and delightfully observed first feature... Pert and well-paced with its punchy electronic soundtrack and touches of magic realism deftly woven into the narrative, Mighty Flash is a real one off... Ironic, inspired and in the delicate spirit of Victor Erice.

A mighty flash, or at least a brave one, Destello Bravio is something special. Hypnotic, oneiric, it is perhaps science fiction in the same ways that Undergods and Under The Skin are and are not... I was enveloped by it. Reflected within its prism.

At the heart of Destello Bravío is a tension between the supernatural and the domestic, a magical realism that aligns Rodríguez with Victor Erice’s The Spirit of the Beehive. Everywhere you turn there are images plucked out of some strange reverie.

Excellent... A supremely confident and beautifully photographed portrait of a waning Spanish town—and particularly its aging female community—that looks like an Ulrich Seidl documentary, but is generally fictive and approaches the world variously with compassion, sly humor, doses of magical realism, and plenty of unexpected details.

Showing the utmost respect for the people she portrays, but still making good use of irony and humour, in her debut feature, Rodríguez has combined psychedelic music with the traditional songs of Tierra de Barros... the religiousness of its Holy Week with the female complicity found in the neighbourhood associations... and anger over abhorrent past events with empathy of the most infectious kind.
