The Life Aquatic features Anderson's eccentric wit and unique cinematic vision. There is a dark, morbid current flowing beneath the surface, but Anderson deftly blends the film's many textures and moods. I also really loved the scenes with Brazilian musician Seu Jorge playing his acoustic guitar.
I couldn't really appreciate this movie the first time I saw it, seven years ago. I really love it now. The surrealist and imaginative mind of Anderson has no equal. Great cast and music. And Seu Jorge singing...priceless.
yet another wes anderson masterpiece. easily his most godardian film with the stark colours, the superlative editing and some of the odd performance styles. bill murray has never been better, anjelica huston is aloof and cool. cate blanchett is utterly hilarious and touching in a role which is an utter parody. can any director do hilarity with a touching underbelly better? modern cinema at it's very best.
I was born in a sailor's family tradition. I was a Cousteau fan when I was a kid. I subscribed to the magazine and even got the red hat. I wish I saw this film when I was 7 or 8. I would've been mad about it.
The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou is the kind of movie that gets better with each viewing. The direction and cinematography are great and the acting and music are superb. What really stuck out the last time I saw this movie was the writing, specifically the dialogue. Between that and Bill Murray's performance, you really can't go wrong with this movie...
Great cast, "genial" mix of directing-cinematography-editing, a very nice screenplay and clear references to Fellini and Cousteau.
Thanks to this film, I've seen in Wes Anderson the ideal heir of the "last" Fellini ("Prova d'Orchestra", "E la Nave Va", "La Voce della Luna"). Even the colorful cinematography reminds me of the "Flash Gordon-like" cinematography of "Fellini-Satyricon"...
I fell asleep in the middle of the movie but I eventually finished it. Even though I fell asleep, I actually like this movie! There are so many scenes that I love, such as the scene where they explain about the ship and the underwater scene where they finally found the jaguar shark.
