A fundamental respect for the considerations of childhood is at the heart not only of what Whedon does, but arguably of the entire ‘nerd culture’ that so dominates the current mainstream and of which he is a prime exponent. But The Nevers isn’t clashing childlike wonder with adult fretfulness, so much as garnishing a whimsical narrative with adult sex and violence.
