Rewatching it today, I was struck that Unbreakable really does sell its silly grandeur. Shyamalan seemed determined to prove himself here as not just a storyteller but also a significant visual artist. With nearly every scene, you can envision him behind the camera, teeth gritted, the gears of his mind spinning; Shyamalan clearly demands that every twist, turn, performance, and bit of extraneous information is presented to the viewer in the most impressive way possible.
