When it comes to wuxia movies, Shaw Brothers is the go-to studio. Between 1965, when they kickstarted the self-proclaimed “new era” of wuxia-pian, to 1985 when they ceased film production, Shaws made over 150 movies that not only redefined the genre, but changed the whole Hong Kong film industry.

Here’s my personal Top 30 of Shaw Bros’ wuxia pian, starting with classic chivalry stories and ending with fast-spinning laser-shooting extravaganza. Many of them are well known and easy to find titles, but there are also few hidden gems.
