Synopsis

In 1634 Quebec, a Jesuit priest and his young companion journey through the wilderness with Algonquin guides to reach a remote mission. But as they attempt the arduous 1,500 mile trek upriver, the testing elements and the ever-present shadow of death are never far behind.

Notre avis

Long before Martin Scorsese made Silence, Bruce Beresford delivered one of his finest films: a harrowing, Conradian renunciation of the Christian missionary project. Exquisitely photographed on location in French Canada, Black Robe journeys into the heart of darkness for the ultimate test of faith.
