Sun Wukong the Monkey King, monk Tang Sanzang, humanoid pig Zhu Bajie and river demon Sha Wujing embark on a perilous journey to retrieve holy scriptures from the west, as an act of redemption for their past sins. On the way, they encounter a host of spirits, monsters and demons who threaten them.
