MY TOP 20, THE REST IN YEAR ORDER.

What a marvellous decade! A platinum age of Japanese cinema, lots of Hollywood classics, and major new faces either making their names or debuts: Satyajit Ray, Bergman, Fellini, Resnais, Varda, Truffaut (yes the French New Wave), Chahine in Africa, Bunuel’s comeback. The peak of Hitchcock and Ray but for me the decade belonged to Mizoguchi.
