A Ranking of Ingmar Bergman's Films

Having recently completed a book on Ingmar Bergman (“Queer Bergman” University of Texas Press: 2013), I thought I’d take a moment to offer a ranking of the director’s films from best to worst (those that I’ve seen. There are just a few I haven’t been able to track down.) These rankings are based on my own, admittedly subjective perspective. However, if you want to see a single “typical” Bergman film, you might want to start with WILD STRAWBERRIES, and if you’re committed to seeing a bunch you might want to save FANNY AND ALEXANDER until the end, as it’s a “summing up” or capstone film in many ways.
