Essential Classic Film Noir (Visual Style)

If you had to put together a small list of the essential examples of the classic film noir visual style, which movies would you include?

I’m working on a project about the film noir visual style and how to replicate it in photography, but to do that of course, I have to familiarize myself better with film noir. This list is going to be used to help me figure out which movies I have to see.
