Fellini’s ‘La Dolce Vita’ did not come out of the blue. The Italian film industry had already morphed from the end of a Neo-Realist sensibility in the mid -50s into lighter satirical works, but on the back of this came political and social commentary embodied in films by directors intent on making strong statements about Italian society and culture.
