Nepal is nestled between the world’s two most populous countries. Among a few prime contenders, it was most likely the birthplace of Siddhārtha Gautama, the Buddha. Although it has the world’s highest mountain Sagarmatha, and is home to a surprising variety of spectacular scenery and climate, its culture tends to be neglected. This sadly extends to the Films and Lists sections on Mubi. We could do with more indigenous films here. I am learning about the country’s cinema as i do this list. At a film society in mid Wales some years back, we screened the Franco-Nepalese film Himalaya (a.k.a Caravan), attended by many Gurkha soldiers stationed there, with their families. Gurkhas helped save the Red Kite from extinction in Wales and Britain.
