Sometimes realism is not how accurate a film’s moment is to physics or probability, but in how it uses all the elements to display something that feels too real to be denied. Visceral impact is common here (4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days, Children of Men, Full Metal Jacket), but more importantly sobering depictions by filmmakers that obviously understand what you end up hearing, seeing, touching- and processing as feeling.
