Cinema in search of meaning. Often the viewer leaves a film with questions that he feels are somehow answered by the film, but that he just didn’t see. Such films almost always lead to numerous viewings in search of a significant key in the film by which one can structure a significance that will underlie the story and inform each scene with a meaning that seemed lacking on the first viewing. If you have had a favorite movie of yours shot down by another who labels it silly, or even worse, labels you unsophisticated in your cinematic choices, it is probably because you were able to key in to a depth that remains elusive to your surface skipping friend.
These films, therefore, involve at least two quests, the character in the film is on a quest, and the viewer is also on a quest for meaning.
