A classic coming-of-age narrative slowly shifts to becoming a provocative drama about sex work in François Ozon’s portrait of a year-in-the-life of Isabelle. With a breakthrough performance by Marine Vacth, the film presents an ambiguous—perhaps satirical—take on the machinations of high society.
