“Lesbian Space Princess” is sure to play best for a niche audience, and the film knows it. In fact, its unapologetically sapphic perspective is part of its appeal – it never sacrifices its authentic voice in hopes of playing to a broader audience.

“Lesbian Space Princess” proudly boasts of its many different genre elements, encompassing everything from drama and comedy to sci-fi and musical theater, all filtered through a rainbow lens. It’s part of the film’s appeal, of course, and at the beginning especially, this ambition pays off.

The intended audience for this vivid adventure is unlikely to care about the film’s lack of originality in the story beats and character-development areas as long as the film delivers on other levels, which it mostly does. It looks appropriately poppy and appealing and, while there are a few longueurs, on the whole Lesbian Space Princess zips by, while delivering quite a few chuckles along the way.
