Hansen-Løve hits a career high note, delivering a quietly thoughtful and ultimately life-affirming portrait of the strange interaction between loss and rebirth. It’s a miraculous balancing act that pretty much took my breath away.

One Fine Morning once again confirms Mia Hansen-Løve’s position as a movie alchemist. She takes the stuff of everyday life — work, family, relationships, illness, raising children — and mines it for magic without ever feeling trite or inauthentic.

This is a movie about emotions that are hard to spell out, made by someone who knows that angry/aggressive narratives receive more attention than quiet ones.

Seydoux is once again marvellous and a collaboration such as this seems long overdue.

Through Sandra, Hansen-Love delicately communicates how everyday hurdles can feel insurmountable in the face of a loved one’s mortality... For a film so steeped in sorrow, “One Fine Morning” surprises with a conclusion about the value of forging on and seizing opportunities for reinvention.

This is a big movie served up in a surprisingly small, intimate package.
