What Ellen does for LGBTQ+ rights, great. What Ellen does for comedy is hit-and-miss. However, Ellen's complicity/apologetics for Neocons like Bush is unacceptable. Also, her attempt to curtail free speech is problematic, and from a powerful position. Hmm.
A 20 min special stretched out to 68 minutes is not a good thing. The need for content outweighs the need for quality control. There's a huge price she's paid for the level of success she has. She has become a cautionary tale.
Ellen is undeniably funny but this felt more like a self-centered show, a homage from her to herself rewarding her for all the things she achieved in her life and for the difficulties she overcame to become who she is today, rather than a stand-up comedy special. I really admire and adore Ellen but very few moments in this show were funny.
