“Industry or marketing always thinks technology drives our stories and images, but if you see what’s happening, people are actually embracing film again because they know there’s a different aesthetic and look to it. Not all stories should be told the same. There are certain stories that I think lend themselves to the digital media and certain stories that lend themselves to film, so I don’t think technology is the thing that’s going to change our stories.”

    Paradise: Love

    PARADISE: LOVE

    ULRICH SEIDL Austria, 2012

The first in the Paradise thematic trilogy, Love starts the series of darkly comic tales about the human search for happiness, making bold connections between sex tourism and globalization through the lens of aging desire. The rounded lead character of contradictions is consistently fascinating.

    Paradise: Faith

    PARADISE: FAITH

    ULRICH SEIDL Austria, 2012

After Love comes Faith! The Paradise thematic trilogy heads into even more dangerous territory with the twisted middle installment’s look at extreme faith, diving forward with zero inhibitions and a positively fiendish eye for unsettling satire. One of the best films of 2012, said John Waters!

    The Limey

    THE LIMEY

    STEVEN SODERBERGH United States, 1999

In Terence Stamp and Peter Fonda, this fish-out-of-water revenge yarn sets two icons of the British New Wave and New Hollywood on a thrilling collision course. Marked by a stylistic playfulness and wicked wit, The Limey is a slinkily assured neo-noir that stands among Steven Soderbergh’s very best.
