An excellent film in every way, beautifully acted by all concerned. It deserves to be out of whatever Rights Limbo it has fallen into.

Very strong in performances and in cinematographic highlight of the Sicilian milieu in the US, Lumet's adaptation of Miller's homonymous play is replete with tension and tragedy as identities collide and as resentment mixes with incestuous passion (a great synecdoche for communal solidarity). Vallone's humiliated longershoreman is superb in a film of many stunning scenes of confrontations, physical and emotional.
