The collection Between Tides: Asian Avant-Garde, presented by MUBI in partnership with CHANEL Culture Fund and M+ Museum, is now streaming globally.
To mark the release of the collection Between Tides: Asian Avant-Garde, presented by MUBI in partnership with CHANEL Culture Fund and M+ Museum in Hong Kong, we present an exclusive, wide-ranging conversation between Silke Schmickl, CHANEL Senior Curator and Head of Moving Image at M+, and director Minh Quý Trương, whose film Viet and Nam (2024) is featured in the collection.
Between Tides: Asian Avant-Garde traces the bold, shifting contours of contemporary Asian cinema, gathering filmmakers whose visions move beyond convention—from poetic shorts to boundary-pushing features, fiction films to experimental documentaries. Cross-cultural and interdisciplinary, each work pushes cinema’s limits—reflecting on what was, and what is yet to come.
