A suitably stark and simple approach belies a quiet audacity in both presentation - a monologue in a couple of sets - and writing. Whilst characterisation is well within Routledge and Bennett’s safety zone, this is a wonderfully melancholic descent captured with deftness and economy. Whilst this monologue isn’t quite the small revolution it’s touted to be, it’s an assured and engrossing piece.
