Synopsis

From a young age, Stéphane Riethauser was groomed to become the heir to his family’s business. His confidante was his grandmother Caroline, an independent woman ahead of her time. After several years, Stéphane matures into his true self and embraces LGBTQ activism. But will Caroline understand?

Our take

A conversation between the director and his grandmother becomes a deconstruction of a bourgeois family’s history, which speaks of the effects of patriarchal gender roles on both their lives. Made with the filmmaker’s own archive, this documentary is personal yet resounds with a universal truth.
