My Old Ass is a success because it’s so earnest, allowing these ideas to resonate with subtle humor, emotional heft and, most importantly, self-acceptance. It’s also very good encouragement to go pop a few ‘shrooms in the woods.

While there’s no shortage of stoner humour, the film is deeper and considerably more satisfying than the drug-baked adolescent wisecracking might initially suggest. Stella and Plaza are a match for crackling charisma... Together, they make light work of the film’s heavyweight question: having caught a glimpse of the future, how much of the present would you decide to change?

Smart, and sharp enough to balance the sweetness of its simple yet profound message. All we have is time, and [My Old Ass] reminds us, movingly, that it matters how we spend it.

My Old Ass plays with those romcom clichés, subverting them with a boy-meets-lesbian storyline and loads of quippy dialogue – even if some of the characters are a little two-dimensional.

My Old Ass can’t help itself when it comes to mashing your emotional buttons or threading platitudes into its high-concept goofiness... It also can’t help but win you over when Stella and Plaza are you letting you see two sides of this young woman, and in the process, make you reflect on your own inner multitudes.

[My Old Ass] is a bit wan and saggy. And while there’s still (arguably) some fun to be had with this independent comedy’s double-entendre-friendly title, the laughs – such as they are – don’t extend a great deal further than that.

Mystifyingly, dismayingly, My Old Ass morphs into a gloopy, droopy, soupy young adult fantasy romance which finally fails to deliver its own ending, and we are denied the actual big finish, without which the entire story has been a pointless waste of time.

While it might sound like a stoner sci-fi, the reality is more nuanced and sensitive: My Old Ass is a queer coming-of-age story that muses on life choices and relationships.

“My Old Ass” is a remarkable little movie that starts out fun and glib and then takes a turn into profundity. It’s so wonderful and unexpected, to have what seems like a little romp turn into something that can actually deepen your experience of life.

Park’s film is modest, but it’s grounded in the inner terrain of its characters in a way that makes it feel substantial.
