Much like young Adam, The Adam Project may seem underdeveloped to some and easy to dismiss, but its bright mind and big beating heart are easily distinguishable to those who choose to look.

[Soon,] the film ignores time travel’s narrative potential and becomes a generic high-tech action movie... How far through time will we have to travel before Hollywood loses interest in father-son bonding?

[The Adam Project] matches [Free Guy] for excitable energy, and surpasses it for likability... The high-concept plot is held together more by force of will (and some decent special effects) than by logic, but the core of this engaging, kid-friendly Netflix production is a big-hearted tale of broken families made good.

The Adam Project doesn’t feel like a real movie. It feels phony both from the outside... and from the inside, too. It’s an assemblage of ideas from other popular films that just hangs there with little cohesion. It’s like watching a movie that hasn’t been made yet.

[The Adam Project] improves on Reynolds’s last collaboration with director Levy (Free Guy) and vastly improves on the actor’s previous most recent Netflix movie (Red Notice, of which we’ll say no more.)

Yes, "The Adam Project" falls into sentimental traps, and, yes, it coasts down well-worn roads instead of paving new ones with fresh imagination. But you'll laugh, cry and cheer at this cynicism-free throwback to ‘80s family entertainment. As a nostalgia trip, it's irresistible.

The Adam Project, as pleasantly slight as it is, gestures toward a career trajectory [Reynolds] might enjoy in the years to come.

[The film's tone] aims for a vague combination of time-travelling romps like Back to the Future and Flight of the Navigator plus time-travelling weepies like Forever Young and The Lake House. It wears both those tones unconvincingly, like a serial killer in a skin suit.
