“One-Armed Swordsman” retains a [certain] power... Wang Yu carries the film with a strong presence and Chang Cheh, for all his faults, knew how to direct action better than most. It’s influence on Hong Kong Action cinema cannot be underestimated and is worth checking out.

To modern audiences, much of One-Armed Swordsman might look primitive – and too often we underestimate the sophistication of these movies, that the humour is actually intended... But it’s stood the test of time, an enduring and often touching classic for lovers of swordplay movies.
