A soap-opera that is very badly lighted. When the lighting draws attention to itself, you know it's bad. It has that soap-opera logic to it. "I understand that you slept with every available woman in Port Charles including your Mom, but you can't tell Lisa because it would break her heart!" Yeah. Ok. Did I mention the horrible lighting?
Des mœurs libérées à la confession sacrificielle === From sex games gone wrong within the smooth and rich Parisian liberated bourgeoisie and its mores slippage in the heart of the Parisian bourgeoisie, to the ultimate sacrificial confession ===== https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yew8jd-9AY
A brilliant moral justification of murder, this time told with such affection for its bourgeoise characters the tone becomes almost elegiac. With stunning production design and cinematography, this is one of Chabrol's most neglected works.
One emotionally vibrant and disturbing analyse about the little bourgeoisie nasty mind and hidden depravity, the whole thing is treated in a very psychological and moody way, no action, extremely slow, lethargic and heavy rhythm. I prefere the duet between Audrand and Bouquet in the twisted and much more dynamic "une femme infidèle".
