Video Sundays: For That One Second, the Look in Grace Kelly's Eyes, the Movement of Her Head

From John Ford's Mogambo (1953). Featuring Grace Kelly, Clark Gable, and Eva Gardner. Cinematography by Robert Surtees and Freddia Young.

I saw Mogambo for the first time a couple weeks ago. It confirms a couple things I’ve always suspected. First, that I’d like Ford’s films even more if they included less music and more ambient, diegetic sound. This scene’s a great example. Also, Ford never stopped making silent films. This whole sequence is told with the grammar of the silent film era. And, finally, Ava Gardner makes any film better.
Thank you for a moment that touched my heart!
