Told from Charlie's side, Chuck & Buck could be a kind of indie, psychosexually loaded variation on The Cable Guy... The film centers on Buck, and without softening the character a whit it slowly pulls our sympathies in his direction not necessarily by demanding that we relate to him but that we see things from his perspective.

This portrait of cracked love is really a profound story of how the reveries of childhood can hold us, shape us, and rule us as adults. White’s performance is a revelation, and so is the astonishing intimacy of Miguel Arteta’s direction. Chuck & Buck makes you laugh and squirm at the same time, but it never condescends to anyone on screen. It’s a tribute to the freakishness of humanity, and vice versa.

Overall, the laughs are few and the tension level is extremely high. It's a squeamish ride, but well written and with competent acting... The final product is often disturbing, but remains watchable thanks to director Arteta's fine blend of urban horror and dark humor.

This hilarious and haunting movie is a shocker in the best sense of the word — it explodes easy definitions of childhood, friendship and sexuality... [spinning] off in unexpectedly funny and touching directions that mark White as an outstanding new talent and Chuck and Buck as one of the year’s best and most provocative films.

Shot with all the squirming intimacy of digital video, Chuck and Buck ask us awkward questions about our taboos. White's portrayal of Buck inspires both sympathy and a cold shudder and this is certainly one of the most disturbingly funny films of the year.

Chuck & Buck is amateurishly acted and glacially directed, and its story line is blithely blind to its most offensive implications... Any movie that sentimentalizes stalking ought to be shunned.
