Munich at the turn of the century. The dance student Maxi Brunnhuber is invited for the first time to the famous Bal paré, the carnival ball at the Munich Opera. She meets the much older Dr. Horst Heisterkamp, a major industrialist from Bochum, whose head she immediately turns.
