Films that are about really Fake & real people

Whenever I watch a film by a director who makes films that are claimed to be true to life, I am quietly judging whether these characters are real based in my own meager experiences. As a socially inept person who is familiar with alienation, I have to put faith in the director that their camera work is reflecting something true about people without their own distorted perspective interfering with the truth. Furthermore, when they are put into situations, these characters are playing a role based on people they know, or amalgamations of themselves and what the director and screenplay writer perceive.
