Contemporary Iran, the unseen world of youth culture, filled with underground parties, sex, drugs and defiance. Two vivacious young girls–Atafeh and Shireen–are discovering their burgeoning sexuality, struggling with their desires and the boundaries placed upon them by the world they were born into.

The youth film goes political in this portrait of a forbidden homosexual relationship between two young women in Tehran. Filmed under top-secret conditions, and later banned in Iran, Circumstance is at once a tender love story and a cinematic revolt against state sanctioned injustice.
