Set in contemporary Japan, the story centers on Yamamoto Fumi, an 82-year-old survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bombing. Living alone and feeling increasingly isolated, Fumi desperately seeks human connection, even attempting to engage with passing schoolchildren.
