A selection of notable, popular and landmark British films and TV programmes, with some personal taste involved too. 100 Most Essential first, then the rest, in year order. I’m not including Peter Watkins’ excellent Edvard Munch, which is Scandinavian, or Hitchcock’s Rebecca, or The Great Escape, but I am including Nic Roeg’s Walkabout, in Australia, which is a mixed nationality production, and Kubrick’s The Shining, though it feels American, as does Dr Strangelove, despite starring Peter Sellers.
David Attenborough’s natural history TV series are magnificent and monumental, Michael Palin’s travel series marvellous too. Both men are international treasures.
Not on Mubi: The Ridge (MacAskill, Thomson), A Day with the Gypsies (Quiribet), Wales: Land of the Wild (TV).
