“I had a great time on “General Hospital” and met a lot of great people. You don’t really make friends in Hollywood. But I have made a few great friends from this. I learned a lot from doing soaps, it gives you a lot of experience. Doing soaps, the plots are developing so slowly and it is very different from doing films.”

    IDIOTI

    LARS VON TRIER Danimarca, 1998

A controversy stormed, the Dogme 95 movement took center stage, and an angry critic got kicked out of the Cannes screening. When the dust settled, Lars von Trier was left with this poignant, boundary-pushing film, which explores the very price of provocation. Presented here in a new restoration!

    LE CINQUE VARIAZIONI

JØRGEN LETH, LARS VON TRIER Danimarca, 2003

Lars von Trier has never been shy to burnish his reputation as the malevolent puppet master of his protagonists’ misfortune, but never quite so literally as in this playful documentary. One of the great films about filmmaking, The Five Obstructions is a reflexive marvel of cinematic problem solving.

    IL GRANDE CAPO

    LARS VON TRIER Danimarca, 2006

Lars von Trier dialed down his ferociousness in the mid-2000s to make a satire of neoliberalism that is, in fact, surprisingly sweet! Circling around an eager thespian who bears the brunt of a peculiar act of outsourcing, this droll, lo-fi version of the office sitcom never needs a laugh track.

    MORS IN TABULA

    LARS VON TRIER Danimarca, 1997

Picking up in the immediate aftermath of the first season’s startling cliffhanger, The Kingdom II sees the troubled hospital plagued by the rise of a greater evil. Masterfully harmonizing mordant humor and poignant pathos, Lars von Trier’s TV phenomenon scales new heights of white-knuckle suspense.

    PANDÆMONIUM

    LARS VON TRIER Danimarca, 1997

The hospital is rapidly deteriorating. What is happening in the deepest darkness of the Kingdom seems to be directly related to the neurosurgery department, and Mrs. Drusse draws closer to solving the riddle. Amidst his malpractice investigation, more skeletons emerge from Dr. Helmer’s closet.
