Classic period US (mostly – English language at least) noirs which I like a lot, but which don’t have many mubi fans.
The list is in three parts:
- from Woman on the Run down to The Man Who Cheated Himself are my 36 favourite noirs with less than twenty fans on mubi. They’re roughly in order of preference.
- the ten films from Black Angel to He Walked by Night have between 20 and 50 fans, but they’re too good to leave out.
- the bottom of the list, from They Won’t Believe Me down, includes noirs with 30 fans or less that are recommended by my mubi friends of unimpeachable taste, so they are sure to be good!
And if they were on mubi, I’d probably add, near the bottom of the list, C-Man (Joseph Lerner, 1949) and The Judge (Elmer Clifton, 1949). C-Man has a lot in common with the oddball low budget noirs that came a decade later, while The Judge is one of the weirdest noirs I’ve ever seen.
Grateful for any suggestions!Lees minder
