IN TIERS, EACH IN YEAR ORDER, WITH A STARTING PACK. A selection of notable, popular and landmark British films and TV programmes, with some personal taste involved too. I’m not including Peter Watkins’ excellent Edvard Munch, which is Scandinavian, or Hitchcock’s Rebecca, but I am including The Great Escape, Alien, Blow Up, Dr Strangelove, 2001, and Nic Roeg’s Walkabout, in Australia, which is a mixed nationality production starring Jenny Agutter. The Shining simply feels too American.
