NEWS

  • Following the launch of the English-language podcast earlier this month, yesterday we revealed our upcoming original Spanish-language podcast! In the first season of the MUBI Podcast: Encuentros, co-produced by MUBI and La Corriente del Golfo Podcast, leading voices in Latin American film and culture come together to think about their own methods and processes for approaching the craft, talk about personal experiences, and reflect on films and filmmakers that have inspired their work. We begin with Gael García Bernal (Mexico) and Carolina Sanín (Colombia) as the guests of the first episode, entitled The Ritual of the Masks. The first season of Encuentros consists of in-depth conversations among colleagues, an encounter between two people who share their love for cinema. Check out the trailer above and subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts here.
  • Andrea Arnold will be presiding over the Un Certain Regard jury at the 74th Cannes Film Festival in July. Joining her are U.S. director Michael Covino, Argentine director Daniel Burman, actor Elsa Zylberstein and Algerian director Mounia Meddour.

RECOMMENDED VIEWING

  • This Thursday, celebrate Pride month with a live viewing party of Isabel Sandoval's short film Shangri-La and Toshio Matsumoto's Funeral Parade of Roses on MUBI! The party starts at 8PM ET, and you can join Sandoval on Twitter as she shares her thoughts on both films with the hashtag #PrideUnprejudiced.
  • In honor of Juneteenth, MUBI is also proud to present a free presentation of Terence Dixon's documentary Meeting the Man: James Baldwin in Paris, available to audiences globally from June 18-19. The film, which captures the iconic writer in many symbolic locations in the city, can be streamed on the web and iOS/Android mobile devices at mubi.com/free.

  • A trailer for Arthur Harari's Onoda – 10,000 Nights In The Jungle, which will open the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes this year. The film follows soldier Hiroo Onoda, who hides out in the Philippines following the end of World War II and refuses to surrender.

  • Artists Space is currently presenting Till They Listen: Bill Gunn Directs America, a comprehensive program of films, talks, and more celebrating the life and work of the great filmmaker, playwright, novelist, and actor Bill Gunn. This includes a series of films directed by and starring Gunn, a virtual concert by Carman Moore (the composer of the Personal Problems soundtrack), and a talk with long-time Gunn collaborator, poet and playwright Ishmael Reed, who wrote and produced Personal Problems.
  • Thanks to the UCLA Film & Television Archive, you can now watch the 1967 pseudo-documentary short Queens at Heart online. The anonymously-made film is comprised of interviews with four transgender women. In the words of film historian and filmmaker Jenni Olson, who purchased a rare 35mm print of the film in the 1990s for $75, Queens at Heart is "a glimpse at pre-Stonewall queer life, it is truly remarkable."

  • The official trailer for Michael Showalter's The Eyes of Tammy Faye, about the lives of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker and her husband Jim Bakker.
