Film Announce Du Film Qui N'Existera Jamais: "Drôles De Guerres" (Jean-Luc Godard) Rejecting the billions of alphabetic diktats to liberate the incessant metamorphoses and metaphors of a necessary and true language by re-turning to the locations of past film shoots, while keeping track of modern times.

Godard Par Godard (Florence Platarets) Godard by Godard is an archival self-portrait of Jean-Luc Godard. It retraces the unique and unheard-of path, made up of sudden detours and dramatic returns, of a filmmaker who never looks back on his past, never makes the same film twice, and tirelessly pursues his research, in a truly inexhaustible diversity of inspiration. Through Godard’s words, his gaze and his work, the film tells the story of a life of cinema; that of a man who will always demand a lot of himself and his art, to the point of merging with it.

The Railroad Man (Pietro Germi) A Rome under construction that steals space from children’s play, low wages, strikes and scabs: the only salvation is in the sense of belonging to an ancient, popular world whose roots give strength to face life’s dramas. A choral work on the passing of time, the film was initially titled A Day and Every Day because it tells of “the slow flow, the bitter and sweet sense of life.” Probably the most musical film in Italian cinema, Rustichelli’s soundtrack supports the emotional wave of events. Drawing from Neorealism, Germi recounts a changing Italy while making it a universal tale: the joy attained by the couple is reminiscent of the end of Journey to Tokyo, when the two elderly parents observe the harshness of their past with a warm, disenchanted gaze, charged with dignified happiness.

The Chosen One (Aribam Slam Sharma) Aribam Syam Sharma’s “Ishanou” is a poignant tale of love and loss steeped in Manipuri culture that tells the story of Tampha, who abandons her husband and daughter to join the Maibi sect of priestesses, responding to the inexorable call of the deity. But behind her absorption in the mystical world of the Maibis, lurks the anguish of a mother alienated from her child. The film beautifully juxtaposes the spiritual world of the Maibis with the rhythm of ordinary life. The simplicity of the director’s approach, the delicate camerawork and understated acting, coupled with the vivid depiction of the Maibi culture and the use of the traditional music of Manipur, gives the film an authenticity that blends storytelling, documentary and ethnography.

By tracing his tormented life, this documentary shows us how Michael, an actor and producer like his father, had to accept their resemblance throughout his exceptional career to assert his difference. Taking him to her hometown where she and her father once lived also proves fruitless. Faced with no other option, she brings Kohei back to her own home.

Nelson Pereira Dos Santos - Vida De Cinema (Aída Marques, Ivelise Ferreira) For six decades, the cinema of Nelson Pereira dos Santos has projected Brazil into the eyes of the world. Precursor of Cinema Novo, Nelson was, more than a director, an ideologue, a thinker of his country. At the Cannes Film Festival, Vidas Secas, Azyllo muito Louco and O Amuleto de Ogun competed for the Palme d’Or. Who is Beta?, Comme c’est bon mon petit français and Mémoires de prison took part in the Directors’ Fortnight. Several scenes in the film were shot in documentary style with random people walking down the street. Lead actress Manyi Kiss gives a most touching performance.

The Village (Léopold Lindtberg) This film deals with war orphans following WWII at a children’s village in the Swiss Alps where over 200 children from all parts of Europe are gathered. The subplots involve a romance between two of the teachers, the grim decision of Red Poland to quit the experiment, and the problem of the German children being viewed as symbols of oppression rather than as victims the same as the children from other countries. The last credit line is for the Teachers and Children of Pestalozzi Village, which inspires the feature.

Viva Varda (Pierre-Henri Gibert) A pioneering post-war female film director, an instigator of the New Wave who was honored by Hollywood in her own lifetime, AgneÌs Varda has become a source of inspiration for a whole new generation of young filmmakers.
